This piece is called "Custos Ignis," which (hopefully) means Guardian of the Fire. This was one of the five pieces that earned me the rank of ABS Master Smith in 2019. The blade features one of my favorite damascus patterns, called Dragon's Fire, which was developed by my good friend Mareko Maumasi. The handle features gracefully carved flourishes in Arizona ironwood, one of the hardest woods on the planet. The burl presented the extra challenge of carving through zones of varying hardness throughout the piece. I look forward to doing something like this again!

Nearly all of my knives are made using high carbon steel. It is superior to stainless steel in almost every way, but you need to know how to take care of it. It is important to understand what you’re buying.

Pricing on custom work ranges from $100 on up to $10,000 and more, depending primarily on the complexity of the piece.

Lead time (i.e. when the knife might be complete) depends on what I have on my books at the moment, but in most cases 6 months is a safe guess.
