Arming Sword (Type XV/XVIII)

Blade:  27" 1075 high carbon steel

Handle:  7" steel, maple, goat leather, cord

This is an arming sword, typical to the equipment of an armored knight in later medieval Europe. I built this sword in the first ever Sword Reflections class under the guidance of master swordsmith Peter Johnsson, who had come over from Sweden for the occasion. Peter has exhaustively studied hundreds of medieval swords in museums around the world, and this blade is historically accurate to extant swords of its type.

This sword comes with a felt lined wood-core scabbard bound in fine leather matching the hue of the grip, with full mountings to be worn. On a personal note, this is the first sword I have ever worn, and I was shocked at how comfortable it was. You could wear this thing all day long and basically not notice it unless you were navigating lots of tight spaces.

High Carbon Steel

Nearly all of my knives are made using high carbon steel. It is superior to stainless steel in almost every way, but you need to know how to take care of it. It is important to understand what you’re buying.

If you would like to discuss a custom order, send me a message here to start the conversation. Your email will come to me, and I will respond personally. Tell me as much as you can about what you envision so that I can begin to frame the project in my mind, and we’ll go from there.

Pricing on custom work ranges from $100 on up to $10,000 and more, depending primarily on the complexity of the piece.

Lead time (i.e. when the knife might be complete) depends on what I have on my books at the moment, but in most cases 6 months is a safe guess.
